Two young university girls with big dreams joined forces and Kwanisa Foundation was birthed. It took us a couple of years to register the organisation and actually plan our 1st initiative. However, after a lot of growth and prayer, we launched our Child-headed home initiative called Light In a Home Mission in August 2019 and we launched our 1st Annual Christmas Outreach Party on the 7th of December 2019.
Having a safe play area is fundamental for the healthy development and growth of a child. According to the Living Conditions Survey (LCS) conducted in 2017, there are more than half of non-poor children (53,7%) who live in neighborhoods with safe play areas compared to just a quarter of poor children (25,7%) who did not have the privilege of such facilities but truly desired them. Furthermore, the survey explored the importance of having child-development tools at a young age as it largely expands the minds of children.
For our 1st Annual Christmas Outreach, we partnered with Luluama Primary School which is situated in a small township called Klipspruit in Soweto. Lulama Primary School assisted us by locating some of their scholars who are deeply underprivileged and are in difficult circumstances. A total of 15 children between the ages of 10-13 years were allocated to us, on top of this we requested that the school also finds us 7 additional children who are from their community but don’t attend their school between the ages of 6-9 years old (also underprivileged). The school honoured our request and did so. In total, we hosted a Christmas party for 27 children and 2 educators from Lulalma Primary school.
The 7th of December was quite a rainy day but that did not dampen any of our kid’s moods, they were so excited to be treated and spoilt for the very 1st time. When they arrived at the venue; Mazi-Mo’s indoor play area, their faces lit up and we could feel the joy in their hearts. Upon arrival, we served them some fruit to start their day. After all the opening formalities we allowed the kids to run wild in the play area. We must say, the sight of little kids running around in pure happiness truly brought the sunshine in our day.
The day ended with a Christmas gifting session; thanks to our sponsors (friends and family) each child received a brand new Christmas outfit, shoes, some toiletries, and extra goodies.
What a fulfilling day this was for us. To see the joy in the children’s eyes from their arrival to their departure was, to say the least, life-changing.
Going forward we have plans of making our Christmas outreaches bigger and better. Our vision is to give every child that we come across an experience of love, hope, and faith through these outreaches.
The vision too big for us to carry alone, therefore we hope to receive sponsorship from corporates who share the vision of bringing hope and joy in children less fortunate.
